Executive Director of Surgical Services

The Executive Director is a registered professional nurse who has the authority and responsibility for the administration of the Surgical Services Division, defining and maintaining standards of nursing practice and quality of care within the system. Position is responsible for the formulation and implementation of operational policies and procedures necessary to meet these objectives. This position is responsible for coordinating, guiding and monitoring the professional nursing practice and patient-centered care in the Surgical Services Division. The Executive Director collaborates with other executives and colleagues to make decisions that impact outcomes across all settings and will collaborate with other professionals to maintain patient care standards that align with the organization’s mission, vision and values. She/he will be specifically responsible for directing and monitoring patient care standards carried out by nursing personnel.

Provides patient care, treatment, and services within the scope of their license, certification, registration, and/or assessed competencies. Practice will be in accordance with laws and regulations and will adhere to established policies, procedures and practice guidelines.


1.Develops, organizes, coordinates and facilitates division specific strategies to achieve organizational objectives.

2.Translates the system vision to departmental, operational strategies; prioritizing and executing those strategies.

3.Initiates and integrates varied nursing practices, standards, policies and procedures to insure optimization of resources.

4.Monitors the healthcare industry to insure regulatory awareness and compliance while facilitating a competitive position in the market.

5.Promote a culture that fosters cultural diversity, communication, teamwork, accountability and empowerment in audition to ethical and compliant behavior.

6.Develops and manages a fiscal, operational and capital plan that supports system strategic imperatives.

7.Accountable for directing, supervising and evaluation of patient care given on assigned nursing units

8.Responsible for management and supervision of nursing managers on assigned units

9.Responsible for supervising and directing educational, financial, staffing, equipment and supply needs for assigned units

10.Stays current on new and recommended practice standards through participation in professional organizations and activities that promote growth and development

11.Leads and participates in activities that involve patient care services division or hospital interdepartmental functions.

12.Represents surgical services in leadership meetings.

13.Ensures division adheres to organizational service excellence standards and best clinical and administrative practices.

14.Supports institutional compliance with all regulatory requirements and standards of practice, including The Joint Commission and CMS.

15.Responsible for developing and maintaining an active “continuity of operations” plans for crisis and disaster situations including plans to keep personnel safe in a disaster and for monitoring the physical/mental well-being, stress levels and demands on staff during crisis/disaster. Provides consistent and rational leadership in organizing a response to a crisis and/or disaster.

16.Effectively develops partnerships with physicians and other care providers to plan, support and evaluate care and outcomes. Efforts result in positive comparative outcomes

17.Collaborates with Human Resources to ensure effective recruiting, compensation, staff development, policies and procedures to provide qualified employees to meet the organization’s need and to retain qualified staff

18.Supports nursing/hospital philosophy and mission

19.Participates in supporting the organization’s vision, mission and values

20.Performs other duties as assigned to meet the goals and objectives

21.Collaborates with surgical leadership to ensure volume objectives, clinical program growth is achieved.


•Minimum Education, Experience and Licensure Required:

•Graduate of accredited school of nursing.

•Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing with an advanced degree in nursing, business or health related area required

•Current Georgia license to practice as a registered nurse.

•Minimum of 10 years of profession nursing in perioperative services

•5 years of progressive nursing leadership experience

•Demonstrated track record building high performing, patient & safety centered surgical teams

•Demonstrated experience of improving surgical operations with positive outcomes in quality, cost and productivity

•A visible leader with strong strategic & execution skills

•Track record in maintaining positive, collaborative and effective relationships with physicians, peers, subordinates and superiors

•Performs skills and competencies as defined in orientation checklist and annual departmental competency checklist if applicable.

•Demonstrates and maintains competencies specific to patient population served.

Salary: 120K+
